Age Appropriate Household Chores for Kids

Children love to help in household chores and they do it willingly. These household chores should never be a compulsion to do for children but if they are willing to do we can always have some activities for them which are appropriate for them according to the age group. Household chores can be an easy way to inculcate good habits in children. You can also encourage them by giving a little reward or giving them a visual reminder of stickers or pluck cards that they succeeded this job.

2 and 3 years

Here are some of the household chores that you can let your child do with adults help. It is possible that children end up in increasing your work but it is a good way to inculcate good habits and also there motor skills develop simultaneously.

  •  Make the bed: let children put pillows on its place and tug the sheets.
  •  Keeping toys in their places: After playing with the toys ask your child to put them in places.
  •  Feed pets: If you have a pet, then let your child feed him.
  •  Watering plants: kids can easily water the plants at this age.

4 and 5 years

At this age children like to engage more in the household works and they ask for it themselves. Children’s motor skills are also developed by this age hence they can perform better. But all of the tasks should be done in the adult supervision and their help.

  •  Set and clear the dining table: Children can set the utensils (you should be careful if the utensils are of glass) and bottles. They can also clear these things up at the end.
  •  Folding small clothes. They can fold small towels, handkerchiefs and can also try to fold their own clothes.
  •  Dust with socks on their hands.
  •  Sorting Clothes: Kids can sort their own clothes into T Shirts, pants, socks, etc.

You can engage your child in these activities for 10-20 minutes every day, because many times kids are not willing to do. Once they know what all work they can help in let them select these on their own. This way kids will also become a valuable and contributing member of the family.
